Blocks 3-5 completed

D-6 Challenge; G-4 Shutter Bug; D-13 Field of Dreams .... Middle one was hardest block to date. I foundation pieced onto tearaway however had to unpick the middle 13 pieces & hand sew it back as I had short changed myself on a couple of seams & when removing the tearaway the seams came loose. Am learning fast !!!

  1. LOVE your blog!!!

Here's a trick that I learned... When I'm working on these DJ blocks and I'm doing Paper piecing (which I LOVE to do, BTW!)... I reduce the stitch length, a bit. I find it's easier to tear away the paper, afterwards and you really can't tell the difference with a reduced stitch per inch.

Also, a friend of mine SWEARS by the spritzer bottle method.

Take an empty spray bottle - if it's a "mist", it's even better, she says. Spray your paper, to moisten it. Paper comes off easily, slightly wet. Now, I've never tried this method myself (yet), but she says it works. *grin*

    LOVE your DJ blocks too!!!!

  2. Your blocks look great!!! Enjoy the journey! You will certainly improve your piecing skills as you progress.
I am working on my 50th block, began in Feb of this year. I too was so intrigued by this quilt and the history of it. My goal was 3/wk at the start, but have begun a challenge quilt thru my local Quilt Club so reduced my goal to 1/wk. Often I have been able to do more each week. I look at those as "gravy". You may keep to your 1/wk because sometimes life just gets in the way of quilting. The "extras" you do each week are your "gravy". However it goes - ENJOY!

  3. Congratulations on your completed blocks and your new blog! Enjoy the process...there is a learning curve, but those who blog are very kind about helping newbies out, especially quilt bloggers. I've just been going for about 6 months and still have some things to learn.

    YAY! I'm your first follower!!
